SmartVideo Technologies says it has completed a beta test for incorporating commercials in MSNBC's next phase of mobile television slated for November 2006, according to the press release.
Kyoo Kim, the vice president of sales for MSNBC.com, says in the release, "MSNBC.com is increasingly looking at ways to offer its high quality video content to mobile users for free using an ad-supported model.
"As we did with online video streaming, we are excited to pave the way for ad-supported mobile video advertising as we have seen much interest from our conversations with marketers across the country."
NBC Mobile TV
I regularly watch NBC Mobile news on cellular phones I test courtesy of Sprint and Verizon Wireless. There are videos of individual news stories as well as summaries of the latest news.
I don't think NBC offers a 24-hour live news program for mobile TV the way, for example, ABC News offers its mobile-specific ABC News Now and Fox News offers the same feed as shown on cable TV.
NBC Mobile TV programs already includes advertising after a few (not most) individual reports. NBC's commercials promote "Everywhere You Go We Are There."
The mobile TV commercials promote Brian Williams as NBC's news anchor as well as news programs being available on traditional television, Apple's video-enabled iPods and cellular phones.
The Shosteck Group research company says mobile TV advertising could generate more than $1 billion in revenues by 2010, according to the press release.
