I contacted a Verizon Wireless public relations executive and asked whether the company would hold any press conference or reception to celebrate the launch. He said he didn’t think so.
My idle thought: Washington, D.C. is the place to address the movers and shakers in the Federal government as well as some of the top journalists in the country. A V Cast Mobile TV press event makes a lot of sense to me.
Great PR opportunity
It’s a great opportunity for Verizon not just to promote the concept of mobile TV but also to answer some of the naysayers. In other words, Verizon should be proactive in discussing the problems with mobile TV and providing answers. Get some mobile TV-smart Verizon executives to speak briefly as well as a wireless analyst or two.
But I strongly suspect that’s not the Verizon way. (I’d love to be proved wrong.) Unfortunately, it’s not the way of any cellular operator and many large corporations.
But from a public relations standpoint, it seems like a good idea to me. But what do I know? (A lot, actually — 29 years of wireless analysis, an M.S. in journalism in broadcasting, 11 years of wireless data consulting and an emphasis on mobile TV. Not that I’m egotistical or anything….)
